Join Astrig and Joe and the Searsport Shores Campground Community for an Amazing Armenian Picnic, the 5th Annual, at Searsport Shores on Sunday, July 27, 11:00 - 4:00.

Food will be served from 12:00 to 3:00.

This year there was an Volunteer Day at Searsport Shores and I was able to capture a busy spring community work day. Why was this so important to me? Because in 1994, as leader of the Penobscot Riverkeepers 2000 Educational Expedition, we were welcomed to stay at Searsport Shores Campground while we worked with the Searsport School Children the next day.

We were greeted by Astrig and Joe Tanquay at the Lobster Shack and I noted Fiver Red Geraniums along the path. Astrig asked if I liked flowers and that soon lead to a discussion about their vision for Searsport Shores. She lead me through the wooded campground with rustic facilities and spoke of gardens, campers, programs and dreams. I was visiting leading an educational program and we did not know of each other's passion for fiber. As the campground grew and the Fiber College of Maine evolved, I continued my involvement in a variety of ways, sometimes as a vendor, other times as a participant and other times as a guest. What delight it has been to see the ongoing and continuing growth of the campground, the fiber and community vision.

Wow! Talk about a Vision! Talk About Two People creating and continuing to build community! Astrig and Joe, their Family and Staff have fulfilled their original vision and continue to grow beyond that. But for today, I will just take you on a pictorial journey of Searsport Shores.
